I think it's just a matter of evaluating the job description and interviewing the hiring manager to clarify expectations. Interviews go both ways! A role that has me calendaring and processing expense reports is worth less than a role requiring project leadership and strategic partnership.
Glassdoor is helpful and so are resources like salary transparent street! Pay transparency online and in conversation is important! I make $120k as a Sr EA in a corporate environment with 15+ years of experience.
Lastly, you're worth more than you think. ❤️
That just comes down to individual companies and what they expect from someone. What you can do is ask for the salary range if you're called in for an interview and make your decisions based on that. Obviously, if there are things like some light bookkeeping required you should ask for more money as you'll be doing what's generally considered above the level of an AA.
I worked as an Administrative Assistant at an accounting firm and the pay seemed great and it was a nice office. THEN the work load came. I was practically an Assistant to ALL accountants, handling walk-ins, managing the front of house, and had a manager that treated me as though I was never doing enough. The work load was insane and I ended up leaving after only a year because it was miserable. There was another AA who was offered the same position as me, but was put in the back of the office and was able to get more work completed because she wasnt doing half of the other jobs I was expected to do. When she got promoted and I didn't, I was done.
I always do research on places like Glassdoor and levels.fyi. The more research you do, the easier it is to kind of figure out what you should be getting paid.
