We're supposed to be in-person (office or client) two days/week, but there's no real tracking system. We just communicate with each other / the team we're currently working with. It is still expected that your work is getting done, but if there's a reason you need to cut out early, go for it.
I get that - screen share can be a great tool for sure. I've just noticed that when we're fully remote, sometimes as the SM, I don't even know the questions that are getting asked - the associates rightfully ask the senior first, the senior gives an adequate answer, I never know the conversation happened. But when we're working in the same room at a client, I hear the question, and while the senior gives an adequate response, I can frequently add more color or an example or explain the 'why' for a procedure, etc, and the senior goes, 'oh my gosh, I understand that so much better now.' And, I think questions get asked and answered more efficiently in person, it's just in the flow of the day instead having to make a phone call or appointment. In my personal experience, hybrid has seemed to be most effective, but I hear you, if you're successful and fully remote, I can see why that would be your preference.
In the before time, when we had this policy, a lot of us would show up a half day or two a week. Exactly stay until lunch and then leave for the day. Now we are tracked and have to be in office, so that is no more. Was really nice to have the flexibility, but was really a random schedule to keep for in office hours.
Yes
I work remote.
I think most managers/supervisors need to decide what is going to be successful for the company. No one likes micromanaging, and it's unhealthy for everyone involved.
We are all adults, if you think you hired someone that isn't doing the job, then why are they an employee.
On that note, if you are salary, and you are on top of your responsibilities, it shouldn't matter if you come in early or leave early or take lunch random times.
I would focus on the following as a manager/supervisor
- am I getting complaints that the employee is not doing their job
- how often are they leaving early, coming in late
- are they attending the meetings
If you get the job done in 6 hours, then you shouldn't be made to feel you should be doing more or you don't have enough work.
Unless it's every day, then you should probably help your team or let your supervisor know that you have a confirmed 2 hours a day that you have nothing to do.
I would love to work for/with you!! I totally agree with this approach. We should be treated as adults, not children in the workplace. Act like a child, get terminated. Pretty simple stuff I would think.
Our hybrid used to be 2 days in office the whole day then 3 WFH. But, our company decided the office was not needed so now it is all WFH. Sucks never seeing anyone.
We call that coffee badging. It is now tracked
Swipe a badge to get in the door. Date and time data is recorded.
Yes, a lot of us go in early (before 7am) and leave around 2 to avoid traffic - and wrap up work at home. We don't have any in office requirement so it's go as you please.
I am supposed to be at work 2 days a week. I head home at 2 or 3. That was I can help get my kids where they need to go.
I keep up with email through the evening.
I am right there with Assurance Senior Manager. We don't have any realy tracking system so honestly people really do come and go as they please.
