I worked across them and used them as local. A couple notes:
1) each office is an island. Whereas many firms prefer a cohesive approach its the opposite at GT. This means you can work with some great teams or bad teams depending which office you're working with.
2) theyre a black box comp firm. This will typically mean significant salary compression for mid and sr associates
3) theyre big law but not particularly prestigious big law. Id put them on the level of DLA Piper (aka the McDonald's of BL)
4) when I was considering lateralling there (from Jones Day) they asked if I'd be willing to eat a class year. I did not end up pursuing it.
Stay away if you want structure or market comp
Only good for Real Estate. Better reputation in Miami than anywhere else. Not a good reputation in NY. Totally siloed. No uniform culture, which leads to all kids of bad behavior by the partners. Black box comp. Do you have other options?

I knew a paralegal who worked there in NYC and described a very cruel and chaotic situation. Hard to forget
I want your job.
It’s shocking to me a lot of people here, even people at GT, don’t understand how the firm works.
It is office and practice dependent. The associate in the office next to you might make $150k less at the same associate year bc of the practice he is in. The associate in your practice in the office 1 hour away from you might make $100k more than you. It totally depends on your office and practice.
I am lateraling to GT from a second-tier lit firm (not W&C or Quinn, but think one level down) and I’ll be making above Cravath with an 1,800 hours expectation. The average associate in my office and practice billed under 2,000 hours and made more than Cravath each of the last 3 years.
So you need to get your individualized offer to determine it’s a good fit.
I would be very wary of the 1800 unless you are going to be below 100%. If you're not fractionalized or at reduced hours, you will definitely be expected to bill around 2000-2100 base
Any thoughts on their funds practice?
