The grass looked greener and indeed it was.
Y’all taking applications? 😂 dying to do something adversarial.
Lack of mentoring, firm was a revolving door and I wasn’t doing the type of work I wanted to do long term
During my interview they asked what I’m looking for and the first thing I said was mentoring. I said I’m more than capable of researching the statues and case law but I am hoping to learn from the partners’ experience. They said they can appreciate that I am junior so they are willing to mentor and they strategize on files as a team.
Stayed because I got treated really well and they matched the offer. Told me I was the future of the firm. TBD.
Associate 6 - That truly was insightful and I appreciate the response. I agree with you. I suppose the question would then be . . . Do you want to be the future of a firm where others are not “futures of the firm.”
I’m about to leave my firm. I’ll put in my two weeks next Friday. I’m leaving because I’m moving to another city for family reasons, and I don’t want to work in a satellite office. Also, the hours are atrocious, and the firm I’m going to is more of a “lifestyle” firm.
I stayed because I got a huge raise, and hate the thought of starting somewhere new
Actually, a different associate accepted an offer and our group leader matched the offer for her and me, so I lucked into it. To be honest if the other associate had left my quality of life would have plummeted because of work load, so I really would have started looking. There was no negotiation, management approved the match within an hour. I knew all of this but had to play dumb to my boss
Lots of little reasons (more money, closer to family, better national brand of firm). But the big reason that I didn’t stay was because I didn’t feel I had a future at my old firm.
I stayed because the partners who tried to court me to their new, less prestigious firm were weird as hell and half-asses the offer. My boss at my current firm is a wonderful human being and treats me well.
Left because the nanaging partner was horrible, the hours were horrendous, and I wasn't getting the type of work that I wanted. Love my new firm so far.
