McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

Yes. High performing “lateral hires” are always part of the recruiting mix. Of course, more so when the firm is growing faster and external recruitment is more necessary to supplement organic growth. Less so in more challenging times.
However even in tough times, BCG often outgrows the market and sometimes takes the opportunity to attract outstanding folks from firms where the progression opportunities may be (even) more challenging.
Sometimes BCG will proactively recruit at senior levels to fill a gap in the pyramid or to open up a commercial niche (topic/industry/geography).
Out of curiosity, what are the types of people that do well lateraling in? I’m in a high demand sector/topic area and very busy, but the upwards “pyramid” is crowded so wanting to see if there’s more white space for growth elsewhere
I haven’t been in consulting since 2021 so my view might be outdated, but my understanding is that all consulting firms hire partners if the individual is impressive enough and has a rolodex that can immediately start producing business. I’ve seen some PE Partners/Principals join consulting firms at the partner level. Same with some seasoned C suite/SVP level people at corporations. One thing I will say is everyone I saw come in at the partner level at an MBB worked in a T2/MBB consulting firm or reputable investment bank earlier in their career. Small sample size here though so might not actually be a prerequisite
Yes.
ghSMART recruits partners at a lateral level. Our first one was a 12-year Distinctive McKinsey partner (top 5%). So if you have superhuman client hands, collegiality, and want to have more freedom and flexibility and have a life but also make the same big comp, give it a shot. I can refer you to the right talent lead. DM me. Thank you. I’m the founder. 🤣 And my #1 priority is recruiting top .01% talent. It’s our secret to success. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh.
