Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Guys there’s this boot camp that I came across that trains people to get jobs in Top consulting firms and has a fee plan wherein you pay once you get placed. I just wanted to know if someone here has any experience with this ?

There is no labor shortage. There’s a productivity shortage because of employee stunts like this.
EY1 found the HR rep
Talking to a lot of people, it seems like the labor pool is divided into 2. People who gets it done at home, and ones who need to be micro managed - almost by choice.
If people get it done, leave them alone.

It's fine when members of the board are on half a dozen board of directors but employees can't have 2 jobs. Just another example of the power imbalance with employers and why every profession could benefit from a union
Many board place are relationship role

Haha you didn’t even post the best part. EqF found out about their employees working multiple jobs by analyzing the wages related data they get from various employers.

I thought it was a good plug for their product!
FWIW it's probably a good thing for workers that employers are cracking down on this. People working multiple full time jobs increases the labor supply while competing wages down, though I guess few workers would ever do this, and it's prob pretty localized to certain occupations.
Whether it should be continued or ended aside, it shouldn't tie someone's ability to remain stateside to staying at the same employer. If you gut the incentives for employers to underpay them, the h-1b program's scabbiness will diminish.
Well if you have to cut costs, I guess it is better to layoff people that have another source of income 🤷

D, the middle class do have it the worst. If your parents make 60-100K in the DC area, good luck. Because they make too much for nearly every benefit, they make too much for financial aid in most circumstances, and are considered higher income earners.
I know because I’ve grown up on both sides of this spectrum, in NoVA, just over the Potomac.
Yeah, what's to stop other employers from doing the same rather than addressing the toot cause.

Vaguely reminds me of Tim Ferris outsourcing his job to a VA in the Philippines and it took a year for them to find out 💀
Great marketing for equifax!!! One more new service to sell
The only second job your allowed to have is bagging groceries on the weekend according to corporate America this is a joke hope those folks get another 3rd job especially if they need it to get by
If companies want better productivity and exclusivity then they need to cough up decent wages+inflation!
Fwiw I had started working weekends at an in-laws small business at a warehouse to cover the added expense of private school.
Super flexible come and go as i please, zero chance of interference with Deloitte gig. Due to this I didn’t go through proper deloitte approvals.
Within 2-3 weeks Deloitte knew about it as they monitor for us to get added to other peoples payroll somehow. I got retroactively approved, but just in case people are looking to be slick like me.
Deloitte does it for independence and SEC requirements to ensure you don't have a conflict of interest. And to prevent this they proactively monitor for potential abuses (which keeps regulators happy)
Most other audit and consulting companies are going to do the same. Glad it worked out for you in this case, but bypassing your employer is really a bad idea for the industry you're in (and easy to get caught -work number and lots of other services make this easy)
