Ethics/privilege question: Can an attorney tell friends who they represent? I do ID for primarily trucking cases. Some are big name companies, but most are small. If someone asks the kind of companies I represent, can I give one of the big names as an example? Or if I see one of the small company trucks in the wild and mention to a friend that they were one of our clients, is that a breach? It’s all public record on the court docket, but I don’t know if it’s a breach of privilege to say it.

If it’s public record it isn’t privileged. Also the identity of a client even outside of public litigation isn’t generally privileged. Your clients still may prefer you keep their identity confidential though.

No issue with it. (Lots of law firm websites even have clients in their bios, although I’m sure with permission).

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

Anyone have any experience with ID firms in Massachusetts? I’m looking for a civil litigation position to gain some experience.

If an insurer wrongly denies coverage for a property loss and business interruption claim, can the insurer still rely on the policy provisions to limit the type and extent of the recoverable damages?

Adjusters:

What are you considering when assigning cases to firms in the defense panel. I’m a 2nd year associate at a national ID firm (~300 attorneys) and want to create rapport with claim managers I’m currently working with. Any advice?

Alternatively, is there something that will cause you not to assign cases to particular firm?

I am inquiring about a patient account coordinators salary. It seems I am asking way above average salary due to current position and experience I bring as well as education. Can someone give a number for this position and suggestions for negotiating pay to make what I’m worth.

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
