Facebook has extended its remote work policy through July 2021, but I'm told I'd still have to relocate by the end of the year if I accept an offer. I have an infant so this is risky. Can I request an exception or will they look for someone else then?

If it's unsafe to move, they won't insist (or extend the deadline). Focus on finding a job you'll like regardless of whether you move or not. The rest will fall into place eventually.

By end of 2021 you would have worked there for a year. If it’s unsafe they won’t make you move. If it’s relatively safe but you don’t want to, you can probably get an extension or exception, or find an internal transfer that will give you flexibility.

I doubt they’d let you go for this after youd have worked there for over a year

It’s too hard to hire good engineers- they ll make an exception

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.
