Finally opening a joint investment account. Husband wanted to do it on Robinhood. We’re tight for money now, breaking even and only 60k in savings. (CD, HYSA, regular savings). Income and savings will improve significantly in September. I have 30k in 401k and husband 14k in Roth. Husband 350k life insurance invested.
We will automate $100 a month and I’m putting $5k into the joint investment in the next couple days. Looking for tips on where to allocate to. We have 1 kid and live in HCOL.

You barely have money and you’re going to wager it against the best hedge funds and institutional investors. Just invest in the S&P and call it

like

Oh thank you, yeah I’m not at all. I just want to park my money somewhere that will grow more than my HYSA.

So a few things -
Whole life insurance is a really bad product, especially for those with little other savings.
Can you surrender it and get anything back?
It’s actually kind of sad you have $350k invested here. You could have much more in a much better product.
This is why people are so negative towards salespeople.

Do you own a house? If so you should be directing more money into retirement accounts.
Those are going to be far more beneficial from a tax perspective
As others said equity index funds are good. Stock picking is not a good idea.

I want to just accumulate wealth to have more freedom. I’m trying to educate myself more and grow my income and spend less. I want my NW to finally grow.

Hi All - I’m at a firm that has some infrequent in-house training but not enough to help me develop skills to eventually become a trial lawyer. I know cases rarely make it to trial anymore, but I’d like to develop my skills as much as possible to position myself well when they do. Does anyone have any mock trial programs they’ve participated in outside of their firms that they would recommend?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Anyone been able to work from Dubai for a UK/US firm and benefit from no taxes? They cant put me on performance defaulters as I voluntarily resigned and also got good feedback from client.
The reason I resigned was the sh^^head manager and project.
He said I would be released from project soon and then on bench but after resigning he is saying you have to serve the NP n we cant release early.
This is only option left to get released from this sh^t place

This post is an alert message for anyone joining the Johnson & Johnson EMEA account for SAP & had Rakesh Sharma for their Manager round.

He is nothing less than a con man & will promise you a lot to make you join the account. After that he will put you in testing projects. If you ask for a release, he will either not release you or release with a very bad rating and influence other project managers to not take you into their projects.

You will be left with no choice other than leaving TCS.

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

I’m curious why more non-US citizens interested in FIRE don’t go live in a no/low tax jurisdiction even for a few years e.g. Dubai, some Caribbean islands. I get that some people will have family circumstances (e.g. elderly parents to look after) so it won’t be possible for them, but for a significant proportion it will be an option
