Flipping a pay to play driving range into a tech driven membership based practice facility. Could use some golfer and consultant feedback around these questions…

1.) How much would you be willing to pay per month for a golf practice facility offering unlimited range balls, trackman tech, putting green & chipping green?
2.) What is most important to you when choosing a golf practice facility?
3.) How often do you practice your golf game?

1) I would pay around 100, if it was a convenient drive. If it is not in a good location (more than 20 mins away) then maybe 30-50.

2) launch monitor showing carry, total distance, spin rate. Since this is a driving range I’m assuming it’s open air so I don’t need to monitor to track ball flight. But if it’s a closed bay then I’d want ball flight too. Also if feasible grass > turf but not a deal breaker. To some it is though.

3) 1/2 times a week but if I had access to a facility like this I would be there all the time.

4) bonus points if it had a bar/food and maybe some games programmed in the tech so it could double as a night out with your buddies.

I feel like anyone who plays / practices enough and is will to pay a lot will likely be a member somewhere. I’m temporarily living away from home and can’t access my club where I normally would hit for free and unlimited balls.

1) I pay $50 per hour at Golf Galaxy to hit on a trackman (not a Foresight, not another knock off)

2) If I go to a range, I typically prefer mats because any grass outside a private club will usually be beat to death and uneven. People that exaggerate how mats are not the same don’t know anything

3) was prob practicing 2-3x per week but now have a newborn and just go 1 x per week now

like

1. $50/month
2. Tech so i can analyze my swing and see ball flight
3. ~4-5/month

Trackman ranges only provide ball data. You would need individual monitors at each bay to get swing data

Why membership based? The pool of people willing to sign up must be much smaller than those with a casual interest or beginners not ready to commit. Maybe be open to the public but have a subscription option for unlimited use, access to certain features or parts of the facility, or access at peak times?

Mine is all just what I think, no research or anything. But I feel like the guys you’re targeting are going to be pretty avid golfers. Let’s say $150 range fee plus $100 per weekend on golf. If you add that up you’re getting the people who spend $500+ per month on golf. At that point you’re getting close to private club spend. That was the calculus I did to justify joining a club but I guess all of this will depend on where you are and availability of clubs in the area. For me, my club is 10min away which is closer then any range or course so I basically go there everyday…lol

1. $50 / month
2. Launch monitor like M1 said
3. 3x week

1. $50-75 depending on how close to my house it is
2. Nice chipping/putting green - having multiple so they aren’t crowded. Sand trap is a bonus.
3. At least twice a week

real actual golf balls? easily $100/month if I could hit off grass 8 months a year and mats the other 4.

real greens/chipping/sand (including fairway bunker) and rough to practice on could get me to $150

i like the idea of a subscription to make it easier to actually practice especially if you could reserve time

Why don’t you join a private club big dog?

1) I currently have a range membership that gives me a range bucket at various public courses; costs $500 for the season. These courses have good to great facilities (range, practice greens). I also grab a bucket before every round. If I were at a private club, I would almost certainly have access to a great facility already.

So I wouldn't be willing to pay much for this unless it's open late during the week; I normally don't get out given my work hours. If if were open late, with lights, I would be willing to pay quite a bit (say $200 a month, and I'd be there 4 days a week).

2) Range being on grass.
Chipping green has proper bunkers and is roomy enough to practice longer chips/pitch shots.

3) As a student / when I had more free time - every day. In my current job, I work on it Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
