For a long time, I measured success mainly by publications and titles. Lately, I’ve started thinking more about work-life balance, job stability, and whether I actually enjoy my day-to-day work. My definition of success is changing. How do you personally define career success in science or research?

Going to Denver mid December, would like to drive up to the Rocky’s. What trail would you recommend for a day trip and wouldn’t be too difficult with weather conditions at that time? Is it possible?

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Ok environmental scientists - what are the best eco-friendly changes we can make today?

I am fairly green in academia (< 1 year) and I want to shift to an area of research which I always wanted to do but never could as a Ph.D. student (because of conflict of interest).
The issue I am facing is that due to lack of my documented research experience in this field (read, lack of papers) I am finding it very hard to land any grant and reviewers keep saying "The PI hasn't demonstrated any experience in said research" blah blah.
