Love having a pool. Can’t imagine summers here without it. Probably $20-40 a month for electricity. Hard to tell on water with sprinklers in summer.
Agree, it’s really not much more of an electricity/water burden and in these hellish summers it’s necessary
It’s just a money pit. You have to constantly worry about it even when you are on vacation. If not you’ll come back to a green pool. Even during the freeze, you have to run it 24/7 if not you’ll ruin the equipment. That’s considering you are lucky and dont lose power to run it.
We enjoyed it for a lil bit and decided it was too much. We moved to a neighboorhood with a nice community pool instead. Couldnt rent out that house either due to more liability.
But back then before inflation it was about $50 more for water and $80 ish more for electricity. Pool chlorine price has gone up significantly too.
I have an older pool pump. I think it adds about $50 to my electric bill each month. Addition to water bill is tiny compared to sprinkler impact. I’d guess $20 a month tops. If it is really hot I maybe fill the pool with the hose for 30 minutes twice a week. Otherwise once a week. That said, the house had a pool when I bought it. Zero chance I would build one myself. Electric and water isn’t the only way it is a money pit. Pool guy runs $120 a month, need to resurface the pool every 10 years or so. Pool equipment will need periodic repairs. Swim season is only 4-5 months out of the year.
Dont do it
Why
Have a pool, love it and it’s worth every penny.
Have a 3,600 sqft house with 3 HVAC units for context. Electric bill will max out at $420 in August, water bill maxes at $140
This is nuts, I don’t have a pool, and a 6000sqft lot with a two story house (barely much grass) and have a $200 water bill in Lewisville
How deep are your pools? Came from East coast where very common to have 6-9 foot pools. Here everyone I see has like 4 foot pools…
