I want to get to know the local private companies. I worked at a private company with 2-3k employees before my MBA. They had an amazing culture, but limited progression opportunities. I'm thinking about looking for a smaller company (couple hundred to couple thousand employees) in the Dallas area and looking to find an amazing culture.

Anyone have recommendations on companies with great cultures in the Dallas/north of Dallas areas? (I live in the Plano/Allen/Mckinney area)

I left biglaw after 3 years to a mid-size firm. Took a pay cut but the hours, people, culture and work were so much better I never thought twice about the salary or “prestige.” Ultimately I started 2 very small firms. I am not rich by biglaw standards but I have a very comfortable life and put my kids through college with no debt. 35 years after leaving big law, people are still impressed when I say I started there. I feel like I still had the benefits of the connection w/o the suffering.

Does anyone have some insight on Lipman Hearne or Ledger Bennett? Both have poor reviews on Glassdoor, but I see they have copywriter roles open. Is the culture toxic?

What would you do if you didn’t need money? I have a fair amount coming one day and don’t actually need to work to live a good life (middle / upper-middle class). I work because of this vague notion of “ambition” and because everyone I grew up around is highly competitive and hard driving. I just feel unhappy so often and am wondering what this is all leading to. Scared I’m wasting my life being unhappy / in turmoil cause it’s what my culture wants me to do.

Fellow introverts...can I only advance in my career if I take on a leadership role? The thought of this terrifies me. My current boss hasn't exactly given me the confidence that would reassure me that I'm leadership material. He constantly questions my design choices, which I'm able to defend. My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?
