For my fellow managers (team leaders, people leaders, project leaders, practice leaders, etc.) - which management / leadership books have you found to be helpful in honing your approach to leading teams?

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team was the very first management book I read, and it was a game changer for me. Most of my other leadership development came from good managers and seminars, but that book laid the ground work.

like

I first read it nearly 10 years ago and for an early 20’s manager the main lesson I took (and that stuck with me) is that great individual performance doesn’t equal a good team player, and shouldn’t be protected. Also, address issues quickly.

I’m on an agile transformation project and I am currently reading Coaching Agile Teams by Lyssa Adkins. It’s pretty concise and would help with this. I would also read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie

like

I’ll take a look!

How to win friends & influence people is timeless (though obviously dated in some respects). It was one of the first career type books I read out of college, definitely had an impact on my career style

Our senior creative leadership keep talking about winning Cannes Lions and D&AD pencils but none of them have actually won any since 2007 (that’s 14 years 😭 ) and between all three of them they’ve never won more than a couple of silvers, a couple of bronzes and a couple of in-books (that’s with a combined experience of over 60 years 😭). They have no clue 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭. Tell me something about your agency so that I can feel better about the hell-hole I find myself in🙏

I received an offer from IBM Bangalore. However I saw openings at my preferred location Kochi only after the interviews. I called the HR after getting their point of contact mail and I asked if it's possible to switch. They said I'm already tagged to a project and that they'll check from their end if it can be done.

Anyone knows the chances of location being changed after receiving the offer and getting tagged to a project?

I have not yet accepted the offer.

Hello fam! Hope you’ll are enjoying your Sunday!

I faked my resume I mean my contracting firm did and I didn’t have choice and I got the job. Now my client wants to offer me a full time position. I kind of feel like they trust me with the work I’m doing and also considering my past experiences to offer me a full time and moreover it’s only been 3 months.

I know it’s a little unusual but what do you guys think/suggest me to do in this situation?!

When sending a cold email to a recruiter, should you include a reason why you’re interested in the agency? Or keep it short and sweet with your book, resume and what you’re looking for?

Let’s talk comp — I’m a remote head of recruitment with 6 years of experience being paid 75K base plus bonuses that got me to 90K this year. I’m interviewing for other jobs, and have a potential offer at $130K base. Any idea what the market is like? Is seems like anything between 72K and $250K is possible. I have no idea what to ask companies for.
