For my fellow managers (team leaders, people leaders, project leaders, practice leaders, etc.) - which management / leadership books have you found to be helpful in honing your approach to leading teams?

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team was the very first management book I read, and it was a game changer for me. Most of my other leadership development came from good managers and seminars, but that book laid the ground work.

I first read it nearly 10 years ago and for an early 20’s manager the main lesson I took (and that stuck with me) is that great individual performance doesn’t equal a good team player, and shouldn’t be protected. Also, address issues quickly.

I’m on an agile transformation project and I am currently reading Coaching Agile Teams by Lyssa Adkins. It’s pretty concise and would help with this. I would also read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie

I’ll take a look!

How to win friends & influence people is timeless (though obviously dated in some respects). It was one of the first career type books I read out of college, definitely had an impact on my career style

Does this make sense:

1. Select legal expenses from GL
2. Show expense by vendor (exclude reclass, ajes)
3. Review all legal invoices and tie the invoices back to GL/vendor

I’m really not sure how this makes sense. This won’t show completeness because it’s possible the client won’t give us all the invoices??

(Pls bear with me. I’m only an associate)

Real talk, where are people going for an exit strategy these days. Maybe just a little emotional support may help too.

Do you think most tech companies look for candidates who have exact experience for the roles they're hiring for? Or do you think some are willing to take risks on candidates that they like but don't necessarily fit the bill perfectly? I haven't had success breaking out of my current function, but feel I'd be qualified to do a lot of different things if companies were just willing to take a chance on me.

Hello! Anybody here who works at Houston Methodist Sugar Land, TX? How's the work environment there? Just got an offer and I'm supposed to start this July. Also, is $50 base pay enough for a family of 4 in Sugar Land? We're relocating from another state and I have no idea what the cost of living is in that area 🤷🏽‍♂️

How do you negotiate for a higher salary when you don’t have accurate data to support your ask?My role has evolved so much over last year. I am training new people on my team who I feel get paid more than me because they were just hired and I work on more complex accounts. I’m at $69K CAN with 2 years of experience. Their argument against an adjustment is to maintain equity with those who have similar years of experience but I don’t think my salary it reflects the responsibilities I’ve taken on.

After 4 years and from LV12 to LV8, I decided in Jan to leave Accenture right before covid! 😁 Even though I'm "lucky" and fully chargeble till 2021 I kept my own promise. Today I got it and going to work on the other side of the table, so it's possible guys! There are still great firms hiring, don't give up on your plans just be more patient. Make sure you dedicate time in writing an original motivation letter (no copy paste!). Be honest and show your value in the interviews!
