Wow. McKinsey, which has the biggest public sector presence of the MBB, really hasn't been doing too hot at all in the sector.
Its presence is tiny and it's gotten even smaller. Meanwhile it's bungling whatever opportunities it's getting.

Accenture doesn't either but it definitely helps.
Firm initiatives are 100% part of Accenture performance reviews both in the old and new world. Must have a good +1 story outside of client work to have highest rating or whatever were calling it now
Specialists are technical SMEs at Deloitte. Don't work on selling but are brought in for a skill set and are supposed to be on a handful of projects at once leveraging their SME skill set. -- according to my Specialist Leader
What is "firm initiative work"? I'm pretty sure it doesn't factor into ratings since our ratings are entirely based on project performance unless I've been missing a point
Accenture doesn't
@ACN1 is it possible to get top ratings without firm initiative work?
I don't mind firm initiatives as long as it's not PPT based. Recruiting is fine.
Hope it's not looking at "internal initiatives" as a decision criteria to chose a firm ; it sounds like a pretty poor criteria
If I could go on the specialist track and never do another firm initiative, I'd be sooooo happy
A3 is right. Unless you have a solid sales target or up for promotion to have a sales target. And I don't like the saying firm initiatives. 😂
Me either A4. In my practice we called it Market Development and Initiatives
Yeah specialists still have to do firm initiatives. I just am not interested in initiatives or selling work haha
BCG doesn't require work on internal although most people end up doing some (eg, almost everyone is involved in recruiting at some point in their early years)
We definitely have to to get top ratings. Unless your project work is really amazing (selling work as an analyst, operating as a manager, etc) you need it to do well. The only analyst I know that got promoted to consultant without significant practice dev stuff was managing a team of 6 analysts, and was directly responsible for saving the client ~$300M.
PDM at D doesn't require initiatives
Have you thought about switching to PDM?
No interest in PDM. They are on a way shorter bench leash, the prestige is far less, also not eligible for the same benefits.
Agreed. Why can't you do specialist? They still have to do initiatives
@A3, one of the plus sides from the PA system is that you can get feedback from anyone for anything at anytime. That said, you will typically present your initiative to your practice or work on the initiative on a team. Those are more sources for feedback and most talking points for your CC when he presents your feedback to leadership.
D guys, I'm actually being considered for a role at D as a specialist. I heard the main difference is that they don't have to sell. What other differences do specialists have from the PP&D track?
