Don’t tell the hotel you won’t be there, tell them you’ll be arriving late if they ask. They will try to claw back the benefits if you say you won’t be there as that is the official policy
Echoing what others have expressed, you always book in your name, and then add your parents name down as extra guests. Call hotel hours before check in and say you’re running late, you wanna make sure your parents can check in since they’ll be their first.
They’ll check in, lock-in benefits, and boom, all done.
2nd option but theoretically you need to be at the hotel for them to get your benefits.
I've called Marriott and let them know I was doing something special for my parents and they received all my benefits including a suite upgrade
The hotel or corporate?
I’ve done this. I’ll just add that generally there is an up charge for more than 2 adults in a room, so I generally just add my mom’s name (to play the gender card) and call them a day or two before and say that I’m arriving a few hrs later than her so that she’ll be checking in. I have given both parents a joint cc (Amex gold, I have platinum) for emergencies, but ask then to check in with that card so that if anything we have that leverage. No one has actually challenged my mom checking in 3x in the past 2 yrs at both Marriott and SPG properties.
