For the second time in my career I find myself with a totally incompetent boss who probably has only reached his stature due to his male privilege. He is crap at his job. And he keeps myself and our whole department siloed off from the rest of the business, we have no idea what’s getting filtered down or what he is filtering up. He outsources every part of his own role, and is threatened by those beneath him who clearly know way more than him, but treats me and others like we are stupid. Help!

Run… you can’t change this type of behavior unless he’s the one to leave, which is unlikely because probably he’s been there awhile and as you mentioned, probably to incompetent to get a job elsewhere. He’s likely well paid and thus, you really have no shot at making this any better. You could try to go to HR but you likely won’t be the first and they probably know he’s a problem.

I have been there. My advice, save your breath and time and look for a new job. Alternatively, you could move within the company if there’s something there you want to try, and not make it about the team your on/your manager and just make it about new experiences/growth.

I’m sorry, this sucks and I totally feel for you.

Cant change him
HR already knows
His line manager already knows and is willing to tolerate him in exchange for something else the line manager perceives to be receiving
You have to pray & then do what God tells you (only thing that worked for me)

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. (1 John 4).
