I'm pretty much left alone to manage my area of responsibility. I will confer with superiors on "big picture" issues or personality conflicts that might require special handling, but the day-to-day functions are mine to deal with. If a superior has an issue with how a manager does their work, it would be brought up at the annual performance review or as the need arises.

So basically you would only need to involve your superiors on things that require upper level support?
I have a great rapport with my superiors. We talk regularly as they like to be kept in the loop about how things are going. I like that they show an interest because when an issue arises, they pretty much understand much of it as they are already familiar with the overall dynamics. They have an open door policy too which is nice if I'm having an issue I want to run by them. I definitely appreciate the support I get from them.
That’s very nice! My Fiancée has that kind of manager and I wish that we could switch!!
I'm grateful that my boss checks in on me often. We have weekly one-on-one meetings where she asks for updates and about any concerns that I have.
Very nice. I have biweekly meeting with my supervisor, none with my managers really.
