For those who left consulting and were making $300k+ in TC did you have to take a pay cut? What role did you leave for? And did you go to a public company or privately held company?

Yes, I took a cash compensation pay cut. But over the next three years, will sweat equity to 1/5 owner of my new company. I am the President of the private startup. Automotive niche manufacturing. AMA.

Where did you find that opportunity, was it through a friend or a corporate reach out? How much revenue is the business generating a year? Growth percentage?

Left at M1 (post mba) for a Director level role in a F500 Corp strat team

I went from $330k to $290k TC but was able to keep my same base salary so I was fine with it

Pretty much everyone I know that’s exited to Corp Strat in the past 2 years had to take a pay cut

A1 - depends entirely on the hiring company. Exiting to director as an EM is typical. There’s a bit more title inflation with start ups

OP - I was completely burnt out and felt like I wasn’t learning as much anymore. I definitely hit a wall of diminishing returns with each extra case rep. I also knew that the longer I stayed the harder it is to exit so I was in one of the sweet spots for exits. My monthly cash flow was unchanged given the same base so it didn’t feel like a drastic change. I have zero regret leaving. I feel like I am learning again and I know that I can always go back to consulting if I really wanted to. I think I actually have a better shot at making partner now because I’ve got actual operator experience and a bit more credibility by being in industry

Found out today my toxic manager bad mouthed me to an HR rep in a different division. This correlated with his bad management and abusive behavior. Luckily the new manager I’ll soon be working with dismissed it. Her words of wisdom “reflect on what you could have done differently, you can only control your actions”. How does that resonate for you? Have you had similar experiences?

Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code.

I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”.
Just wondering:
1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?
