A usual shitty move by HR. Move
Regardless of the circumstances which you know, an extension to a probation period rather than a closure of the process suggests they are on the fence with you.
They may be deferring the decision to terminate you based on workflow timing or because there is insufficient consensus to fire you but you are not out of the woods.
I would be looking for other opportunities.

More context: we are due to finish our biggest project at the end of my now 9 month extended probation period which makes me think that they’re telling me to “work like a dog” to squeeze the most out of me then they’ll get rid of me after the project.
I will start looking for a new job but nervous because of the job market
