Depends on how much time you have and if you've already booked flights to/from. But, Vienna is less than 3 hours on the train from Budaoest and has tons to do. Check out some of the palaces, the lipizzaners (dancing horses) and toss in couple rides at Prater, and you should have a little something for everyone.

If you also want to visit another capital city Bratislava (Slovakia) is only an hour train ride, from Vienna, so you could even do that as a day trip if you don't want to pack/unpack an extra time.
