Yes very difficult. We are in or heading to a recession. I quit a toxic job and thought that my skills would land me another job within weeks.
But now they're offering the jobs at junior wages. Just got to keep on applying, something will eventually turn up.
Me too. Quit before having another job.
Very difficult. For me I believe it is both my age and the economy. I do have an in-person interview this week (only the 4th in-person meeting throughout my search) with the board of a nonprofit looking for its new ED. Fingers crossed, as I’ve been looking for over 2 years.
I have been an unemployed since October 2025 I’ve always been the type of person who could leave a job in the morning and have a job by the evening, so it is very unnerving right now. I have sent resumes over 100 resumes I’ve gotten interviews all the way to three interviews and then they never call again so I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve met people at the Unemployment office where they have seminars who have degree in engineering I’m a college professor and can’t find work. I don’t know what’s going on.
Yes! I don’t understand why! Did Trump layoff people and they are taking what they can ?
Yes, Trump is the one who laid off all of these IT people who are being “replaced” by AI. He runs all of the corporations.
The corporations are laying people off because they grew too fast and now want more revenue.
It seems like finding a job is very difficult right now, so my company took the opportunity to roll out pay cuts since they know we have nowhere to go😔
Rising Star
The job market has been horrific for quite some time now, over 150k layoffs in tech just this year alone, which is on top of the 2025 number that matched covid layoffs. Every third post on LinkedIn is someone with a "looking for work" banner over their profile pic complaining about recruiter ghosting, phantom job postings, or simply announcing that they are looking for their next opportunity after a layoff.
I am 6 months into unemployment myself, and I've had only 5 interviews in that time, a handful of recruiter screenings, and have submitted several hundred applications for jobs thst genuinely fit my background and skillset.
This past Friday I got turned down for a role that would have amounted to a $100k drop from my previous income even though the call with the hiring manager was near flawless and I could do the job in my sleep.
You not the only one very difficult & challenging to find your way especially at a certain age
yes I've been looking for almost 5-6 months now ,am i the only one? and can tell methe job market is not growing? or is just me ? please let me know? happy hello 🤗 from Philly? go get them phillies..
You’re going to have to give us more information to have informed answers
Extremely difficult, but I keep trying. I will get there.
I've been living off savings fir 6 months. It's no fun. I'm not old enough to claim deceased husband's social security or the $255.00 survivors benefit, nor can I claim my own SSI until I'm 72. I'm being punished for my husband having been older than I. I can't find a viable legal resource. So frustrating. I love my husband more than anything. Tomorrow is the 4th anniversary of his passing. Meanwhile, I'm trying to sell our home. Life is cruel that way.
It's not you - it's a combination of a lot of things. My unsolicited advice would be to form a small group of other unemployed people that you like/trust and can meet up and support each other. Share job postings, read resumes, etc. It's a very lonely time and hard on your confidence. Good luck OP and keep at it :)
Hate to breaks it to you but this issue has been going on a long time!! The market has not been growing for years…. I see the same jobs over and over again…. The job market, I have a horrible feeling is in a downfall that will take years to recover!! We are being taking over by the rich who do not want to create new jobs and definitely do not want to pay people a substantial salary/wage. We will see more layoffs. If we don’t take control of AI and not let it control us, we will be in major trouble not just here but everywhere. Just my thoughts.
I’m right there with you. I’ve never heard so many crickets… I was trying figure out which it was for myself. Best of luck to you and hopefully things start getting better!
Yes and it’s driving me insane . I’ve done countless applications still nothing .
I am having trouble finding a job, I have been on the job hunt for almost 3 months and at times get really down about not finding one.
Good Evening. It is the economy. I don't believe age has anything to do with finding a job. Remember AI is replacing a lot of jobs. Keep praying and looking for a job.
I think you're wrong. But that's what makes horse races. As the COO that's probably what you feel is the right answer, but I'm living proof of the contrary.
One thing I think people don’t realize is those that have been in an industry 20-30 years are customarily included in benefits and salary that are top tier or what has been considered “grandfathered”. When employers retired or layoff or when those employees accept a package to separate from employment the company offloads a very large expense and mat hire in place of at a much lower cost the next go round. I’m getting up there in age and have to remain as relevant as I can. Anyone hired at a Fortune 500 company for an extended amount of time vs the salary of a new timer not even close.
I'm in month 8. I believe its the market. I'm getting alot of interviews and applying for 3-8 a day. Prices are usually lower but that is partly due to location I am looking and partly age. If I changed location and hours willing to work, I believe I could get better role. I'm likely going move out of liberal shithole because taxes are too high and going for stuff they shouldnt be but I do have solid interviews upcoming. It definitely seems like economy is better.
Yes. I left San Diego after 2 yrs of unemployment and 4 surgeries and went back East to the DC metro area only to face the shutdown. I had 3 interviews in 7 months. Either I “lived too far” from the job site or faced ageism. Now I'm back in thr San Diego area where I'll reconnect with my network! Keep trying and be open for new experiences.
I am having a very hard time finding a job. It doesn't help that AI does all the sorting for humans these days. I don't think a human looks at resumes at all anymore. Its a very sad state of our world. I am also 49 with only an Associate's Degree, so I have a hard time there too. I have more years of experience than a degree, but that apparently means nothing to an employer.
