I think to get a foot in the door, it's about who you know. Once you are there, you have to prove yourself.
Anyone of reasonable intelligence with a capacity for learning can be trained into most junior finance roles. It's deffo about who you know.
This is my exact answer! Most jobs in an industry can be taught with a couple months of training at most. Success depends a lot on your network and the people in high places that are willing to give you a chance.
Oh to me this is an easy one. It is definitely who you know. My kids even know this. My youngest swears he only got on the Greenpower team (electric car racing team) for his school because I am a school board member. He also uses this to his advantage and boldly announces and uses this as an excuse... well ill just tell them my mom is a school board member. My oldest also got a chance to intern at a top engineering firm as well because my husband has a contract with them as well through his place of employment. Again my kids are gaining great insights/lessons/opportunities through their network of who their parents know bc of their relationships and status' in the community.
I love a feel good nepotism story💜💜
Hard skills and soft skills.
Whichever one gets you in the door, you'll need the other in order to stay in the room.

Sometimes the right connection gets you to the opportunity, you'll still need to prove you belong.
Sometimes your capabilities put you in demand, but you'll need to build relationships to maximize your value.
This is great advice.
Yes. I always say its about who you know. Networking is so important these days. Sure what you know will get you far but I think who you know gets you further.
It's certainly a big plus if you have people to back you up in certain areas and help open doors for you. But if you want to excel in where you are, your skills will help keep you on that journey.
