Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). Yeah, if I roll up late and they're already on another group I use the priority lane to skip everyone else
I should add, it's not always about being late either. Sometimes American will start boarding early, especially morning flights that aren't waiting on an incoming plane. If they do that, then there is no doubt about skipping the Zone 5+ line
If your ticket reads 1-4 you’re right.
I am Group 1 on AA and almost always I reach the gate when they are boarding Group 5/6. I use the priority line every time like a boss. Never been stopped.

That is precisely why there are two lanes.
That said I usually just wait on line and board with everyone to be nice.
If you’re in general boarding no matter the zone, you’ll still need to go to the back of the line. I was zone 5 and late to gate and tried to board via priority when they were boarding zone 7. Gate agent didn’t give a 💩 and told me to get to the back of the line
I’m executive platinum and almost never skip the line if I’m late unless they’re already group 6 and there is a risk that I won’t get my bag on the plane. My fault for being late.
Ultimately the gate agent is right and can deny you boarding for any reason

Yeah I was group 4. I thought I was right too but second guessed myself. It was a small airport though so probably could’ve waited
