If you are already living paycheck to paycheck, a bank account charging you $10 / month if you don’t adhere to some archaic rules isn’t the best use of your money.
Because it’s king?
Lot of retailers still have higher cash % than one would expect. Lot of lower income people don’t like to use cards. Some don’t even have bank accounts. Some off price retailers have 35+% cash transactions
Because hurr durr the big Wall Street banks are evil. Or maybe they work in cash businesses (drug dealers being an example).
^ But they stand on a line and pay a fee to cash each check though. Not to mention the high risk of theft

there are other cash businesses that are actually legal, EY1, such as the restaurant industry? I used to walk out with a few hundred in cash every night and it was just easier to pay for everything in cash until I made it to the bank
^ Not a Cash Business. I’m referring to business that do not use banks for legal reasons: cannabis businesses, drug dealers, bookies, etc. Places that accept credit cards (such as restaurants, strip clubs, and the like), even though many of the staff may get tipped in cash.
I see your point, but I simply mean I never received a paycheck, I was exclusively paid out at the end of the night in cash and therefore relied entirely on paying bills in cash. Rent, etc. basically was just trying to provide an example to OP as to why people may use cash!
Good point—I didn’t know there were foodservice places that worked that way (I only worked at a Schlotzsky’s and was paid by check). Makes sense now!
