Coast to coast (US) travelers: What are the less obvious things to consider? I have an offer for a good position that would require East to West travel three weeks a month.

You can chalk up spending 35 days of your year in airport / airplane. You can mitigate somewhat, but you’ll feel tired more often outside of the travel due to constant time changes. In all likelihood you’ll have to give up one activity that you enjoy (family time, friend time, exercise routine, etc) due to lost time

That number is staggering. Thanks for the input.

That is what I was thinking. I could be onsite by noon on Monday but would probably be worthless the rest of the day.

It’s not bad if you can do it business class. Brutal to do that flight in coach every week

like

No, it’s 180 degrees lie down seats

It’s Sunday to Friday 2am travel. Expectation to take morning meetings on Fridays. You get one day to sleep in. It’s not worth it. Also, consider the tax implications!

More valid points. Thanks for the input.

So far, made it several interview rounds into roles with EY and Accenture. Optimistic, but want to be as proactive as possible. Thanks!

Perspective: monogamy is anti-human nature; in this era where each parent could raise a kid independently, marriage tends to be a shackle on many aspects of life. We live once, why does society expect us to live with 1 person for 60+ years? No wonder divorce rates are through the roof!

Got a 30% salary bump, via an offer for Senior Consultant S&O from Deloitte. Currently underpaid at EY Advisory. I'm MBA and this year is my promotion year at EY for Manager. What to do? Get demoted and move to D? Or counter at EY? Even if EY matches my salary, and promote me to Manager, I will be an EY Manager with a Deloitte SC salary, and probably won't be able to go to D in the future. What do you think? I have built up a good relationship with my Partner and SMs at EY though.

Additional Posts in Consulting

Inspired by one of my kids' favorite books, I penned this masterpiece of an Ode to Consulting:

One senior partner all alone
Calls two managing directors on the phone
Three associate partners at the door
Bring along another four
Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!

Ok, I'll show myself out now... 😂
