Retire early. Columbus is relatively very cheap.
Lol you work for Capgemini... does that even qualify as 'mediocre'? Get over yourself
Capgemini 1, I think you're confusing Cleveland and Columbus, since Cleveland was hit hard by the downturn in the steel industry, while Columbus was never as steel-focused. Columbus has tons of great companies (Limited Brands, Abbot Labs, and Nationwide Insurance for example) and a revitalized downtown, along with a lot of nice suburbs. Ohio State is definitely a part of Columbus, but it's a city and not a college town. While it's definitely much smaller than Chicago, there are plenty of good restaurants and bars that aren't related to the university. I'd highly recommend it as a place to live and work.
EY2 i might be. Ohio is just a general shit hole as far as I'm concerned
The klan guy that ran over those people in Virginia was from Ohio.
Plenty of people I know are consultants based in Cincinnati or Cleveland but live in Columbus.
ACN has a big office there, and we are growing it into a full delivery center. We do a fair amount of work locally in Columbus, too. State of Ohio, OSU, and Nationwide.
Ohio is a great place to live and raise a family. Lots of awesome jobs in Columbus, even in consulting!
I recently moved away from Columbus after living there for 4 years (I moved to CMH from Boston). I really liked it there. There are great neighborhoods with great schools close to the city, more nightlife and things to do than you would expect, and a great cost of living. As others stated, there are plenty of companies in Columbus where you can find a job with your skills. The pay may not be as high though. Although I'm not sure why you would have to leave consulting - it's doable from CMH.
There are plenty of companies needing those skills in the area. Nationwide, Scotts, L Brands, and Cardinal Health are just the short list.
Worked there for 3 months. Enjoyed it. Plenty of medium to large corporations there. Accenture also has an office there so look into that
Thanks, Cap1. Glad to know I was born and raised in a "general shithole." 🙄
C1 so true, it probably means all people from Ohio are klansmen as well. In fact probably best to never go anywhere in between philly in Denver
I love CMH!
I was there all week on a pursuit. It's like any other place in middle America but I do remember reading a while back that it was one of the cities hit very hard by mfg jobs leaving America and there's huge swaths of practically abandoned parts of town. I don't see it as a town where you're gonna find much of anything , much less career opportunity
There's ok places there though. It will be a huge shock for you coming from CHI I would imagine .
The area down by tOSU is pretty cool. My daughter has cheerleading competitions there every now and then and it's loaded with bars and restaurants by the U
NFW
Glad we got that squared away. Carry on winning 10 football games a year against cream puffs too while you're at it being mediocre
