Def do not give notice until everything is 100% settled with EY. If the background check comes back late, ask EY to push out your start date so you can give 2 weeks minimum. You don’t want to burn bridges in our industry. Accounting is a small world….
Take pto and wait

I did this and enjoyed a month off. I guess it's true about the health insurance, but if your don't have any reasons to not pass the background check, there is no risk at all

Bad idea. Wait for the check to go through, think of what losing your health insurance would mean if things get delayed.
I should mention that I’m still on my parents’ insurance so I’m very lucky to not have to worry about this in between jobs!

If you can weather the possibility of background check delays financially and you’ve got nothing to hide and expect a clean report, I say take that nice break.

I did, but I emailed the background check people at Deloitte first and they confirmed everything came back fine and only the current employment (my firm at the time) was pending. Giving the 2 weeks doesn't mean much if you're leaving another Big4 for EY, pretty sure you'll get same day exited.
I’ve tried asking for status updates just was told it’s waiting on the courts for paperwork on my check. Sounds like it will be coming in under 2 weeks before my start date.

I took the risk and gave notice before clearing. It worked out fine.
It’s best to wait should invade the process takes longer than expected. I’ve seen someone gave their 2 weeks notice before the background check was complete and the process took way longer than expected so they had no income for a couple of weeks and it ate away at their saving. It’s also worked out well for some people, so I guess you just have to weigh the pro and con.
Oh definitely request the start date to be pushed back. The firms are pretty flexible with that as long as you communicate it. Let them know ASAP that the initial start date does not work for you anymore since you are waiting for the background check to clear so you can give your current employer the proper 2 weeks notice.

Took 4 weeks for my husband’s background check to go through and that was after a lot of complaining by him and his new boss to the background check company. They did not seem in a hurry. So depends if you care if you have a gap without pay.
