@KPMG1, I don’t think cost should be the primary reason you go for natural childbirth. There are a lot of other considerations for hospital vs natural that are more important than cost... and it’s spelled “cheaper” btw
Hire a Dula. Natural childbirth. Do it at home, if you are comfortable. My last one we did natural after the first was c-section. Significantly cheeper. Shorter recovery. One day in the hospital versus 4.
Move to basically any other 1st world country.
The costs are just starting, pray you don't need nicu
Standard stay is 2 days but if all goes well you can bounce after one. Avoid induction. Use a midwife. And bring your own scissors to cut the cord.
I have never paid. HMO or Kaiser.
AT1 - What are the premium payments for those insurance?
I don’t recall. I have many many children. You have the best.
Cost around 7k for me on health fund. Max out OOP max on my wife and hospital also charge 2k for kid nursery. And health fund cover 1.5k from the fund so it’s about 5.5k for us
So aflac offers some supplemental insurance that helps - super good deal when you know something is coming up. Ummm i should also add... if you get an really high bill, you can wait till your account goes past 180 days in A/R and call the billing dept and see if you can talk them down. Every hospital has an allowance in their budget for patient responsibility bad debt, just make sure they write it off the AR so it doesn't go into collections. Lol oh healthcare ...
My wife and I took several of the suggestions above: natural childbirth at a birthing center (great experience), hired a doula (highly recommend). Total cost of 10K for the birthing center including prenatal care was covered by my insurance. That said, the baby was admitted to the hospital directly post birth because she was large (>9.5 lbs) and took a few days to learn to regulate her insulin levels. Even when all goes perfectly according to plan, there is always the possibility of the unexpected. It also was covered (yay for $0 deductible insurance!), so no harm. The best laid plans...
