Obviously we all wish there were more tests available, but there aren’t, so let’s put that aside for a minute. Nothing will change in your mom’s treatment based on a test anyways - there is nothing to be done unless sick enough to be hospitalized. I too had classic COVID symptoms this past week after direct contact with at least 2 confirmed positive cases and I was told to stay home. Even if it was just the normal flu, there’s still nothing to be done about it at the moment, and you risk getting others sick or getting sicker yourself by going to the doctor. Just stay home and monitor symptoms is the best course of action
Go to the hospital as a LAST resort. You def don’t want to step into ground zero right now. You most likely won’t get a bed. All are full in NJ/NY.

I agree with your comment that people shouldn’t go to the hospital unless it’s absolutely necessary. I agree that the situation is tough.
All I’m saying is that there is a difference between “hospitals are full” and “hospitals will be full very soon” and there’s a difference between “we’ve run out of PPE and are reusing for a week” and “we will run out of PPE very soon and will reuse it for a week once we do”
One set of statements is a failure - absolute point of no return. The other means we’re redlining but hanging in there. It’s important because we cannot induce more panic by exaggerating - we have to be clear on what’s happening.
Regarding numbers - they give me confidence and allow me to analyze the situation. We have 10,000 hospital beds being used in NY. We started with 40,000 empty beds and are building to 140,000 to meet demand. We’re already past halfway there.

Next time you see your friends, please thank them on my behalf. When the world is falling apart, they’re saving it.

I know the uncertainty is rough - but unless she’s at the point of being hospitalized, the treatment will be the same: go home, drink lots of orange juice, and don’t interact with others.
Remember that the country has a 17% positive rate (and much lower if you exclude NYC) and only people who are showing symptoms are getting tested. She likely doesn’t have it (but of course she should take steps to isolate).
Sending as much luck your way as I can.

Damn. You gotta get her to the hospital now, then. Call every hospital in driving distance until you find one that agrees to take her in.
OP have you tried lying about symptoms to get her tested?
For sure. Sorry to hear about your
Mom OP. Hope she is feeling better. Did you get a flu test done? Heard if that’s negative then they might do the corona test.
Nope, they won't see her. Only teledoc for now

I’m sorry OP, are you in Ny/Nj?
