I want to become a more competitive applicant but not sure where to start. Are there any certificates, skills, or knowledge that I should be learning in my free time?

I always ate the same place every Tuesday night at my Montgomery client and gave the same homeless guy two slices leftover pizza each time. He always said thanks and seemed happy enough with it.

I used to go to a farmers market where there were a lot of homeless people, and I’d typically give them apples or peaches as I saw them while walking to my car. No one was ever ungrateful, I think it’s a nice gesture to share food with someone who might need it.
No lol. You did a nice thing. The intent was there. The end
I just don’t help at all. I don’t believe in enabling their behavior
But ppl shouldn’t be giving you looks. At least you’re helping him while they don’t
I’ll be the first to step in if someone was attacked in an unprovoked way but you can’t get someone on their feet if they don’t want to be picked up. I truly believe that. Same with addiction. You really have to want to stop to stop, withdrawals or not. Just taper off if you need it
Lol. Same thing happened to me. The homeless guy asked what pizza it is. I said chicken. He said I don’t want it. Lol.
Same!! I was giving out packaged sandwiches and he asked me what kind and then said he don’t want it
I’ve had it thrown at me before
I mean… wasn’t the pizza in a box? How did they (the people giving you dirty looks) know it was leftovers ? A lot of people throw leftovers, which in my opinion is food waste. The guy is probably happy you gave him something. On a second note.. if I was homeless and someone gave me their leftovers I would probably just be paranoid that they added something to it you know? Maybe drugs? Maybe poison? (Maybe I’m overthinking). It’s easier for me to trust something that is still closed so to speak. So I guess I see both points?

Ever heard of the expression “beggars can’t be choosers”? Yeah it applies quite literally. You did nothing wrong, although I try not to feed them because I don’t want them to associate the area with food and congregate
Lol you make homeless people sound like geese

If they are truly “clean” leftovers maybe but I wouldn’t feel good about giving someone food I have bitten and picked all over. It kinda seems like a loss of dignity or maybe just respect as a person. If I wanted to help and I had leftovers that were half eaten Id just give money or buy food unless they were insistent.
Yes, this is what I was concerned about. I hadn’t considered this before, but I think in future i will only give money or offer to buy food/grocery items. The person is on the corner regularly, so I don’t know if he has access to a shelter.

Was it gluten free because they may be on some kind of diet. 🙃

Idk why other people would give you looks unless you have him half eaten pizza. However I've seen people offer food to homeless many times and the homeless was not too happy about it. Some may seem ungrateful but most just don't trust what is given to them just like we wouldn't.
I have noticed this too, often being willing to stop and have a conversation, and then saying I don’t have money but I do have food has changed the experience.
I did once offer donuts to a homeless guy who was diabetic so he didn’t take them he was panhandling for his insulin money

On vacation my dad always gave leftovers to the homeless because we weren’t going to eat them 🤷♀️ made sense to me
Now I was riding in an uber once and the driver rolled down his window to give a guy money - for a multitude of reasons that pissed me off

My hat goes off to you
Thank you for not judging
Yea I just kept envisioning the person having a gun pulling that on the Uber driver
Also, doormen to hotels , construction workers etc see homeless every day they don’t stop doing their jobs to give them money. I really think If you want to help do that on not the companies time but your time.
