I burst into tiers during an interview in bschool...the interviewer had mentioned something about how I would go about explaining something to my grandmother...and my only loving grandmother whom I was very close to had passed away earlier that year. I still progressed to final rounds with that company.

+1 I’ve cried at my final round interview as well. The interviewer was kind enough to give me some tissue and let me gather myself. Sometimes, certain topics bring out your deepest emotions - no harm in that. truly shows your authentic self. End result - got the job and interviewer is my mentor now :)

Congratulations. Google believes in bringing your who self to work.

I don’t think I realized how badly I want this job and got emotional. Thankfully the hiring manger was very kind about it and interpreted it as passion and vulnerability.

Update: got passed up for an internal hire but the recruiter reassured me that they like me/are impressed and said they are passing around my resume. I also got a personal reply back from the hiring manager. So fingers crossed the stars will align on something in the next few months.

No because there haven’t been any of the same positions posted. There are some other roles that look interesting but I’m worried that it will look bad if I apply for a different type of role when I said I was so passionate about the first one. Thoughts on that?
