Exactly as you did. I do my best to meet every deadline, but sometimes that just isn't possible, especially if they're sprung on you last minute. I make sure to clearly communicate when things will get done and stay in touch throughout to keep everyone as happy as I can.
Yes, staying in close communication really is key. I’ve found that even just giving people a heads-up on timelines—before they chase—helps ease the pressure. It’s not always about saying “no,” but about being realistic and transparent about what’s possible.
It’s tough. I try to be in communication and let them know timelines and understand what they need. Sometimes things are urgent, other times somebody just needs to know you are getting to it.
Absolutely — sometimes just acknowledging the request and showing it’s on your radar makes all the difference. Not every “urgent” is truly urgent, but people feel better when they know they’ve been heard and there’s a plan in motion.
