Has any firm done anything in the way of extensive EA training/networking within their NA offices via a program retreat? I'm guessing it's a hard sell, but it seems it would be beneficial. Anyone?

You’re right, it’s a hard sell It will never happen. Firm can’t do without EAs for a day!

LOL. NAMR is hubbing BST functions in separate offices in low cost labor markets and a couple of years ago, the NY office canceled the Administrative Professionals Day lunch we've always done so that the entire office could thank the BST staff if their own way. Such a slap in the face. An EA offsite will never, ever happen. Would it be a great idea? Of course. But I'll be my retirement fund that it will never happen.

Our offices do affiliation events, and we have trainings and seminars to help build skills, but not like an actual offsite/retreat just for EAs. I went to an admin “mixer” hosted by Facebook last year, I think they do them a few times a year.

FB hosted an event for admins in NYC and they had a panel of FB admins and recruiters answer questions about working at FB and growth opportunities there. You should talk to a staffing agency to get insight on other industries. I know a lot of people who use beacon hill

Hah, I wish. There’s no provision for any offsite retreat at McKinsey, although that would be amazing.

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

Has anyone ever worked out of a co-working space? Did you like it / did you get any social interaction out of it? I’m in a 100% remote role & the isolation is driving me crazy. (My team does everything via email or IM - phone & video calls are super rare) I’ve been considering working from a co-working space 1-2 days a week, but it’s so expensive I’d like to get some first-hand reviews first. Thanks!

EAs who manage people / have direct reports -- did your title change when you took on people management? What is your official title now?

(Context - trying to decide what title to recommend for EAs in our org who now manage people. Currently, we have multiple levels, but all EAs have the "Executive Assistant" title regardless of seniority / level / manager status.)

I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?
