I don’t believe the EA role is fading. It IS changing, however. I would recommend expanding your skill set to project management, finance, HR...wherever your passion and talent lies...and start thinking about how you can enhance your role or start the pivot to a more hybrid kind of role.
The ea role is not fading.. it’s just accelerating. CoAsting in an ea role is no longer tolerated. You need to be innovative, creative and truly understand the business you are in and be able to think ahead and be proactive in taking on challenging projects for the teams you support. Other areas you can get into from an admin role are - hr, project management, resource management, recruiting..
Unless you work in the executive service center at Deloitte which is 90% mind numbing travel and expenses. The challenge comes in dealing with the ineffective management group that is over the ESC and all of the insane dramas that occur.
Former EA turned producer here! I use a ton of the same organizational skills and emotional intelligence. I’ve also had admin pals go into HR, recruiting, and project management.
Also curious what a producer is and how you transitioned there?

Chief of staff! There's a great HBR article called "the Case for a Chief of Staff" that has some great points describing the overlaps and transition.
