Ask a decent plaintiff's attorney. If they take case them move forward. If not, it's better to just leave because she'll be leaving either way

Yes. It takes a long time (12-36 months in some cases). But, if you don't hold the company accountable, it will continue.
The company will often settle on a much shorter timeline.
Is she going for gender discrimination or something else?

Discrimination lawsuits are hard to prove & win. Does your friend have any hard evidence of this? If not it’s not going to be a winnable case, she’d need to be able to prove that she’s being paid less because of her gender and not other factors eg not negotiating as much, joining in different market conditions, etc.
That’s wild. I think it’s worth at least reaching out to an attorney and asking. A lot of attorneys will do a free consultation and she can ask them more questions on the process and expected outcomes. I had a family member try to file a discrimination suit and he was discouraged from pursuing it by several attorneys cause they didn’t think what he stood to gain was worth the time/money of the lawsuit.
