Has anyone else ever been gaslighted and used as scapegoat by your attorney boss or other professionals to take the blame for their fraud and illegal immoral behavior and yet because of their power in office nobody ever believes the truth, but instead promotes the lies and deceit over their subordinates and the residents in the community?
Thank you!

When I used to teach Paralegal Studies at the local Uni I would always bring the State Bar newsletter to class to go over the section of the newsletter listing Bar Disciplines. I would point out to the class all the attorneys that blamed their paralegals for their own incompetence in their defense statements for a Reprimand, or Suspension and to remember that when looking for a job and remind my students to ALWAYS cover your @ss and keep receipts for the work you do. Your reputation for receipts will keep the blame off you.

It won't always change the outcome for what happens to you because the attorneys still have a lot more at stake to lose than we do but it will speak for itself eventually when it all hits the fan.
Special note: They know the truth but the lie pays the bills.

Yes!! Although it wasn't at a paralegal office but rather a dollar general 😉!

No, not for fraud. But how I see it is what goes around comes back around. Keep on pushing forward. The truth will be exposed eventually, it always does. Unfortunately, sometimes we are not around to see it happen. But, if we are, we should not joy in their exposure just forgive them and pray they learn from it and are big enough to ask for forgiveness from all those they had hurt in the process.

Nope!

I wouldn't say gaslighted or a scapegoat for me. It was me questioning the validity of ethics. I know their license is at stake, but in the end, our (paralegal) jobs are. I was let go about 2 months ago and still looking for a new job. I love what I do and I have morale fiber that gives me pride in what I do. I was ashamed in the attorney, but then I was the one released. Now they are looking for yet another paralegal.

Have you had any interviews yet? I wish you lots of luck. How long have you been a Paralegal? The reason I am asking is have you tried your hand a contract paralegal? Maybe also put that on your resume or better yet, in your cover letter that you are looking for that too (remotely maybe?) while you look for work and hopefully you will get some bits.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

I’m interviewing with another firm next week. Has anyone made a switch like that before? How did you do it? I work in a small criminal firm now. Interview is with a same size/practice area firm.

What were some effective tips or resources that helped you to learn the systems of your first firm? We feel like our firm admin/paralegal is not getting acclimated and not assisting the firm as we hoped. So we want to make sure we’re effectively training her and providing the best resources/tools for success.
