I love it. I get to spend more time with my wife and 1 year old.
Agree. The advancement opportunities are usually limited. However, it depends on what you do. For rare skillsets it may not matter.
Not great. Your opportunities come through your network.
It works out well if they fly you out a week or two every now and then.
Did it for years, depends on where you are in life. Married with a very young kid...it's good for a while, but usually not forever for advancement.
I did it, loved the first three months, then slowly went crazy. Went back to consulting and got back on the road. Glad I did it though because now I know!!
I would agree with D1....you can make remote work but you need to make a bigger effort to get to know your team, market yourself and you do need face to face at least once a qtr
True D1, I traveled about 20% of the time when I worked from home. Miss it many days....
Working remote now and I'm on my third month and I'm starting to get sick of it. It's nice most days but it would be nice to be in the office every now and then with the team. You have a lot of flexibility if you want to travel around and still work. Did one week out in Cali working Chicago time and had the whole afternoon to just explore and hang out with friends.
Did it for 2 yrs and loved it! Key was that my team got together every 6-8 wks in person and I did a lot of other travel around the country, typically with other folks from my team.
