I do org design, culture change and governance. I love it. I am a decision-making specialist and primarily I come from the perspective of creating space for good decision-making within organisations. There are a lot of different perspectives on it though. It’s fairly unregulated. I would say that not all org design is super interesting, there are a lot of times you’re churning out very similar designs. Useful while you’re training but I tend to focus on the very complex issues and definitely deep into the cultural architecture end but not really implementation. I can happily spend hours researching different permutations of culture to understand what will work for my clients. Highly recommend it if you are very analytical. You also have to be able to navigate the politics - I have a friend who is a really good org design consultant who refuses to do it any more because the politics are too stressful.
I’m also interested in org design and was wondering if anyone could give tips on how to learn it…a specific class or certification?
IO programs that I’ve seen don’t actually teach you how to do it and I’ve seen specialists that have had to get additional certifications after their masters?
Yes, I’ve had experience in this space and would be happy to share more about what it's like from the delivery side. Org design and culture work can be incredibly rewarding, especially if you enjoy systems thinking and supporting meaningful change. Happy to connect on LinkedIn if you’d like to chat further! www.linkedin.com/in/renee-marchak
Actually, I'd love to chat too!
Very interested in this type of work as well. Anyone tips on organizations to look at in the US in this space? Especially not just the org design but also the culture part?
I think every organization will have some version of this offer. I think it's too niche to be very specialist though.
