Yes, I used local Meetups a lot in the past and found most of them very helpful. I have attended local technology groups too like the Technology Association of Oregon. I found these events very helpful for networking and getting to know the employers who have jobs in my community as well as meeting my peers, recruiters, and hiring managers in the area. This helped me build my "target employers" list, my LinkedIn connections, and search for jobs directly on employers' websites.
The meetups and groups were also educational, so bonus...learned some new techy stuff too each time.
I volunteered to help several of these groups too, another big door opener and uplifting each time because it feels good to be part of a team and help out.
I’ve found that the quieter spaces, like: local dev meetups, alumni groups, even small design Discords, those places tend to be full of thoughtful, generous people. It’s not just about jobs either. The advice and encouragement helped me get unstuck more than once. Are you already part of any groups you could lean into?
I've only found success through my own personal network, not any official networking event or organization. I feel like anything official makes me nervous
Get out and network locally, Chamber, or any local business group meetings, preferably one associated with your industry peers.

Definitely recommend local networking! It’s so easy to get caught up in LinkedIn or huge job boards
I would also like to hear about this if anyone has any leads. Today is my last full day of work and I have been searching and applying everywhere. I cannot afford to have a gap in pay as I have bills to pay, so I will have to work anywhere I can in order not to fall behind. It is very hard not to give into despair. I am going to school again in August to get my bachelors in computer science. I would have started earlier, but life simply keeps throwing me one curve ball after the other.
