The case and numbers involved weren’t very hard. Just make sure you think through the market sizing questions they ask. One question I had was like we have on average 4 ATMs in each brick and mortar back, over the course of a year that bank processed 24k transactions. Would you say that’s a lot, average, or not a lot at all?
Remember they’re not asking you to have industry knowledge, but rather to anchor your answer on your intuition.
A good way to answer would be, on average each ATM processed 6k transactions a year. There are 52 weeks in a year. Assuming 5 business days a week and 10 recognizes federal holidays we can suggest that there are 250 days in which this branch was open. This would mean that the ATM processed 24 transactions a day which is about one transaction an hour. I would say based on this rate that 24k transaction a year for 4 ATMs would be low.
The key here with you answer is making digestible.
Found the cases to be very straightforward at the Sr Mgr level. Break even analysis was a common theme.
For an analyst position? Lots of break even analysis for the cases and the rest was everything I’ve seen in every interview
Making it easily digestible*
Awesome - thanks for the intel
Still waiting to be invited for an interview. DC market is too competitive for me :(
Does every position at capital one have a case interview?
Thanks BCG1 - although you probably do more of this work on a daily basis ha
EY2 - sadly, it sounds like it
Interesting, I'm looking at working in AML or process improvement for them in Richmond, I'll have to see if those positions follow that interview format. Wouldn't make sense.
New bee here, what is break even analysis. An example please
Let me Google that for you. Also, did you not take any sort of business class in college?
