Seeking a freelance strategist (remote) for an upcoming pitch. This job is all about LA, please be from here or lived here for a very long time and know the culture. Looking to have someone tomorrow and Wednesday. Experience with environmental clients a plus. Email me rebecca@artclasscontent.com.
Hello! I recently applied for a Travel Procurement Senior Manager role at PwC (role is in NYC and I’m not NYC-based but I believe certain roles can be primarily remote). I have 5+ years of experience in this field and the description/company culture seem like a perfect match to what I’m looking for. Are there any fish from PwC and/or their talent acquisition team that can provide a reference post-submission and insight on the hiring process? Thanks!!
How would you describe the culture at IBM?

Hi Fishers, I have accepted Walmart offer and my BGV has started 3 weeks ago. How do I check my BGV status? I will be joining in mid May. Also, I have been hiding one of the company where I had worked for 45 days and then absconded due to personal issues. Would it create any trouble? They had created my PF account though. Any help would be highly appreciated
I got an offer from another company. Currently working in walmart. The main idea behind getting an offer is to ask for a salary rise. I was very much underpaid here. So I thought getting an offer will help increase my pay here in walmart by getting counter offer from them. But i am not sure if I discuss with my manager it will backfire me.Walmart

I was in BigLaw for 9 years and left because I hit my savings target. FIRE kept me motivated. I’m now primarily supporting my wife’s career (BigLaw counsel) as her job has unparalleled flexibility and she legit enjoys it, so we’ll use that to get the rest of the way to full financial independence. For myself, I’m currently focused on writing, wildlife photography, and fitness goals. Its unlikely that I will return to the legal field in the future. I’ve written more about it here if interested: https://www.attorneyevolved.com/post/biglaw-early-retirement

Yes I have. I grew up in NYC and moved to ATL after college. I’m reasonably happy here and I really enjoy the lower cost of living and decent weather but I don’t see myself living here in the long term. I will probably move back to NY soon.
The people here are friendly but they lack depth imo. People don’t really have interests in intellectuall things - they tend to only care about watching sports. Which is fine but not for me.
Also, the restaurants suck in ATL and I feel like there are more interesting job opportunities in NY.
Overall ATL is one of the better cities in the US but not for everyone
I agtrr. I've been living in the Atlanta on and off for about 25 years. I've found that the locals don't have any depth and as a result they lack character. Very little culture, too. The restaurants in ATL are nowhere as good as restaurants in NYC, the Bay Area or Boston, but better than let's say most of the cities in the midwest.

My wife and I moved here from NYC in Oct 2021. We moved because NYC had fallen apart and we were expecting our first child. We now have two kids and bought a house down here. We’re very happy, it’s a really nice place to raise a family. Happy to answer specific questions.
Mirrors my story so much that I’m wondering if I wrote this comment.
Atlanta is full.
Short for… tell all your northern relatives [and maybe those here that say we ‘lack depth’ down south] to point their UHauls in another direction OTHER THAN south or Atlanta!
We’d all be happier, right!?
All these posts by people who live wayyyy out in the burbs. ITP is a totally different experience than Alpharetta, Smyrna, Marietta, etc. OP if you let us know where you are considering living (especially in town versus suburb) that will probably help you get the most relevant feedback. I have lived in neighborhoods in the heart of the city (midtown, poncey-highlands, O4W, Inman park) for 13+ years and I absolutely love it. You could not pay me to live in the suburbs though, so I can’t really fault the people here who live in the burbs and don’t like it.
The suburbs of Atlanta do suck but the city of Atlanta is not comparable to NYC in anyway.
For someone in their 20s that wants to grow quickly in their careers, nyc is miles better.
For someone looking to settle down, then northern suburbs of Atlanta are great.
The city itself isn’t great, especially compared to cities like Charlotte, Raleigh, Austin, etc. It’s rly hard to compare nyc to Atlanta
Agreed except Tennessee and North Carolina. I’m speaking more towards current growth and development trajectories
I’ve been here for 7 years and as much as I love living in Georgia, this isn’t the city for me. It has a “builder grade” feel and is the product of very poor city planning. I will say it’s gotten better in more recent years and the development is promising, but it’s happening a too slow for me.
I love the lower cost of living, the weather, and the huge airport, but honestly that’s it. For being such a large city, every weekend we’re doing one of the same 5-7 things and it’s exhausting. Savannah, Athens, and even some of the ATL suburbs have more to offer in terms of walkable neighborhoods, historical architecture, local boutiques, etc.
I’m jaded from growing up in the NYC area, but I’m cautious about criticizing Atlanta to people who are from here because they’re VERY passionate 😅 I’m interested in moving, but looking to see if my next job will pay for relocation or if I can stay remote.
Let me tell you how bad Georgians are, they get excited about TSA Pre-check.
Re: your concerns about racism - I'm a white guy who grew up in the Midwest, lived in New York for a bit, and then moved here with my South Asian partner.
We've talked about moving a few times, but we haven't because she feels so much more comfortable here with so many other immigrants from different countries and a thriving Asian and Black cultural center. People definitely are way less weird to us together than they are when we go to most other parts of the country.
Atlanta's not perfect, it's getting more expensive and I don't love the flashy/insta culture here, but it's served us well
Born and raised NY’er here. I moved from NYC (lived in Manhattan my whole life then lived in BK then NJ) to ATL in 2021. Moved for a change of pace after enjoying my time here on a work trip. I’ve been here almost 3 years and I hate it. My husband and I have had nothing but negative experiences here. We’re moving back to NYC end of this year. We have our go to food spots near us but downtown is a nightmare and tragic. We’re in on the border of Marietta and Smyrna. While it’s quiet and slower here, I agree with what someone above said the people here do lack depth. I’ve gone out of my way to network and meet more people and everyone is not too far off from main type of people that seem to live here. Not for me. It’s cute to visit for a moment but can’t live here long term. Can’t wait to move
PD1 it sounds like your problem is that you lack depth
It depends. I spent my 20s in nyc and by year 9 I hated it. The first 5 years were fun. I live in Atlanta now in my 30s and love it

Born and raised in ATL, been all over the US and spent more time in NYC than I would like to.
I admit I quietly cheer when New Yorkers move back.
Same. Have also lived abroad. I read “lacks depth” as shorthand for “doesn’t talk about professional life in every situation” and “doesn’t try to have all conversations end in work achievements” - something incredibly off-putting to me about my almost decade in NYC. Work to live, not live to work.
Thank you all!
Here is a bit more context: 29F Muslim POC, married last year and husband grew up in ATL. We both have stereo typical intense-“ambitious” careers and education backgrounds so the jobs we are taking are a “step-down” prestige wise (but better financially when you take into account cost of living). My husband’s family is extremely old-fashioned and maintain south Asian “village traditional culture” (women don’t work, don’t speak English, don’t do anything for fun, didn’t go to college — aka it’s really painful for me to spend time with them and grit my teeth through sexist remarks etc.). We will like live in West midtown initially and then try to but (under $700k or so - so probably in the suburbs). My primary worries/concerns are: 1) racism 2) sexism 3) difficulty making friends/finding community 4) lack of career growth 5) resenting my husband for this move …
Everything you said is on the spot about Atlanta. It's a ig city but it's still "the South."
For anyone critiquing Atlanta would gently ask do you live in the city or the metro? Manhattan itself is like 10 miles. The city proper is fairly small! Marietta cannot compare to Queens much like you wouldn’t compare suburban NJ to SoHo.
But will concede as someone who has lived in both places but grew up OTP I know it’s hard to break into communities here. Best of luck, all!
I came here bc I brought a house in Douglasville. I travel for work so I’m back and forth. Also have family and friends in GA. I like it . Got the quiet suburbs and space and trees. When I want the city life just drive to Atlanta
Literally about to do this now lol. Following.
I moved because of family, but I’ve been having difficulty finding jobs out here!
The city doesn’t need any more New Yorkers, stay up there
