El Tacos Veloz on Buford. Love their carne asada and al pastor. They are great in general. You will get the salsa verde if you love spice as much as I do!
+1 - their burritos are also 🔥

After 10+ years of thought:
- Authentic = Veloz, San Pancho, La Oaxaqueña (south side 45 min), my husband loves Birra El Gordo
- Tex Mex = Superica (and other Ford fry iterations thereof) or Taqueria del Sol (which is great, but not per say “Mexican” style)
- Breakfast tacos = El Tesoro = 1, Muchacho or El Rey either/or for 2nd, Willy’s Terminal C breakfast. This area of mine needs work
- Atmosphere/Vibe for “out to eat” = Nuevo Laredo as 1st, (no respective order) Holy Taco, El Rey again, Bone Garden, No Mas, Red Pepper for large groups (but know it’s not known for tacos)
- Fusion = RIP Takorea, does Velvet Taco count here? anyone else have suggestions?
- Ok to miss = Bartaco is where 25 year olds take swipes to drinks but the plantains are 🔥

Also I should’ve included El Taco in the highlands for out to eat. Patio. Margs. Possibly winning a tequila shot. All in good fun.
Bartaco midtown
El rey del taco on buford
Sinaloese across the street from el Rey. I suggest a driving buffet and hit both
El Tesoro
This.
For real authentic tacos - El Rey Del Taco on Buford Highway
For expensive overpriced fusion tacos, you could go with Bartaco
Tacos la Villa in Smyrna
Don’t sleep on Yumbii.
Hell no
Rreal tacos
Don Pedros in Gwinnett tbh or go into any of the Hispanic grocery stores on Buford Hwy starting from the North Druid Hills exit on up north
Velvet Taco Buckhead
Too much hype. I'd pick a traditional authentic Mexican spot any day.
Taco Bell
Prison tacos — which is not the real name but they’re by the prison and it’s cash only I think.

+1 for the uninformed - near penitentiary in SE Atlanta take boulevard.
Saving this thread as I am moving to Atlanta from Houston in July. I am prepared to be disappointed though.
Just drive along Burford highway and try different restaurants there. My favorite place is Las Delicias de Abuela - Colombian place. I normally get a casuela and some platanos, so damn comforting.
Non-traditional but taqueria del sol for sure. There are plenty of good spots around atl for more traditional tacos (el Tesoro, el ray) but none are great.

Buford has a lot of good spots. I’m surprised no one mentioned La Pastorcita which has excellent authentic tacos. El Taco Jalisco, Supermarket Chicago, and El Taco Veloz are also good options.
Taco T on Windy Hill at Atlanta Rd. Hole in the wall, cheap, amazing.
Carniceria Ramirez - tiny hole in the wall in west atlanta that has the best Mexican food

It sounds like I might get some hate for saying this.. but wasn’t that impressed with el rey tacos. Chips were incredible, good margs, and I like the mini quesadillas a lot, but tacos just weren’t that good
It’s El Tesoro!
