Has anyone on here ever turned down a project that did not align with their morals/values? If so, can you please share some of the context like how you communicated that and how it went?

I just say I have a conflict and leave it at that. If they want me to go into detail, I offer to speak with the GC's office.

A summer associate asked me if she would have to work on projects that did not align with her values if she was an associate. The project in question was representing a school board that wanted to ban certain books. My advice to her was that if she does not think that she can advocate zealously for the client or their cause, then I don't think she should work on such project. And I would give you the same advice. With that said, the attorney that was giving her the project is/was very nice and understanding.

For people with Non-technical backgrounds who are now Product managers in the Tech industry, what kind of resources did you use to prep for your interviews? I've had people recommend brushing up on cracking the PM code but there's SO MUCH information out there and it's hard to figure out if I'm looking at the right thing or not. Please share resources that helped you get into PM roles (bonus points if you work at companies like Amazon and Google).

Gay man who works in a large org that is big on diversity and inclusion efforts. I’d say about 50-60% of people (at all levels, across all age groups and races) list their gender pronouns in email signature. I list mine because I see it as a way to show support for colleagues who may not be cisgender. If anyone else works in the same type of environment, do you infer anything about colleagues who choose not to list their gender pronouns? (such as they are homo/trans phobic?)

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

I was supportive of Lori when this virus first started but her actions since have dwindled my support of her. I don’t expect her to make every decision correct nor do we have to agree with all of them. I believe she should be correct around 75 percent of the time but I believe she is in the 50 percent range. I know everything doesn’t fall on her shoulder but things haven’t been great as of late. Hopefully they figure out something soon.

Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

Currently in a satellite office but work mainly with partners in another, main office in another state (my office has no one that does what I do), and feel like I miss out on a lot of training, networking, etc. I like the firm so don’t want to lateral, and wouldn’t move to the main office, but am thinking of working out of the main office like one week every other month or something. Has anyone heard of an arrangement like this, or have any other suggestions?

How do people deal with manipulative/controlling in laws? I truly love my wife and we always thought our relationship with her parents would change after marriage and now 4 years later with a kid on the way, it hasn’t. They legitimately cannot believe she wants to be more than a stay at home mom. Frustrated to the point of depression.

Junior associate here, should I ask for more money if my firm is about 10-15 percent less hours but about 30 percent less pay? The gap will never be closed to the top pay scale at my firm but when I decided to come to this firm the pay difference was about 15 percent and not 30. Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine.
