What were the life events? Think most firms are all or nothing, although they will prorate for things like medical leave, maternity/paternity leave, etc. but if you’re talking wedding / honeymoon / vacation, I’d be surprised if they prorated hours..
The new york offices of the two v50 firms I've been at have pro-rated for good reason. I think it depends both on the situation and the firm.
All or nothing is kind of harsh without accounting for context.
Firms are all or nothing. What were your major life events? There’s no way you can make up the hours?
In my experience, firms will prorate for medical (FMLA) leave and parental leave, but not much else. However, if you are really valuable to your team and it’s not a purely social life event (wedding etc), you may be able to negotiate something.
It depends on the firm. My DC BigLaw firm was all or nothing. My more regional firm’s Southeast office generally would prorate, particularly if an associate was putting in lots of hours for pro bono, client development, client alerts, etc., but didn’t meet the billable threshold.
Just to note (A1 here), when I refer to billable, I’m counting pro Bono, client alerts, knowledge management work, etc. — I’m at a firm that counts most of that as equal to billable, so think at least at my firm it still depends on what type of leave it is that you took
