I’m sure someone has, but note that most plans have a cap within a 12 month period, so you may be limiting the amount of time you can take after the baby is born.

It’s a fairly permissive standard to take short term disability leave. If you can get support from your primary care (PCP) provider and/or ob/gyn, that may be all you need. The benefit of using the PCP is that you don’t have to reveal the reason for leave if you don’t want to.

Not me personally, but a senior associate I worked with needed to do so for both her pregnancies - hyperemesis gravidarum. She was miserable, and nobody questioned when she took leave for a long period during her pregnancies, and then went on to take her full maternity leaves. Did not hurt her career that I could tell.
If you are too ill to function, that’s what STD is for. You are more likely to harm your career by trying to soldier on when you are too ill to function properly. People will remember any mistakes you might make, but forget the extenuating circumstances.
