I used UPACK
It was great. They dropped a trailer in my driveway, and I bribed some friends (beer and pizza) to load it up. When we were done, the driver picked up the trailer and drove it across country.
Given I knew next to no one in my destination, hired a local moving company to help unload it. Saved thousands packing and loading!
That being said , they still charge by the linear foot of trailer space so I donated/sold quite a bit - but still should have parted with more.
Yeah. It’s awesome
My parents did it for a cross country move - worked out really well for them.
Used PODS for a West coast to East coast move. Worked really well.
What did your price come to?
AC1 - when I used UPACK I had to provide start and ending zip codes so they did a quote based on exact mileage. Should probably do a little comparison shopping.
I did pods from CA to TX and it was so convenient. I didn’t know anyone when I moved to Dallas so I asked the delivery guy if he was looking to make a quick buck and help me unload straight into my garage. Super straight forward!
I used U-Pack to move from DC -> Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh -> NYC. Ended up being much cheaper than normal movers or PODS, and it let me store my stuff for several months in between apartments when I wasn’t sure where I would end up
I used a local PODS equivalent in DC for a move to California. I packed the boxes but they loaded and unloaded (and even stored for a little while in between). I then used PODS to move back to the East Coast and did the packing and loading (and unpacking/unloading) myself. Both were much cheaper than the traditional options I saw out there. The one thing I’ll mention is that they need a significant amount of space to maneuver the pod off the truck which might be hard in a city. In DC, I had to get a permit from the city to block off a few parking spots on my street and in CA, I even had to ask a church to borrow a few spaces in their lot. Moving back to the suburbs was much easier, and I know my parents had also previously used PODS for storage during renovations and parked it in the driveway for a few months. Just some things to consider!
