Has anyone worked "successfully" as a tax preparer for H&R Block in the last couple of years? Were you able to make the bonus payout?

If you are a first year tax pro, it is challenging to qualify for the bonus payout if you work in an office where the senior pros get all the clients. Its hard to get clients appointed to you because of that. For my 2nd year, I am considering working at a franchise location instead of a district location. The office is smaller and the seasoned preparer is looking to retire. I've been told that I will be doing most of the returns which to help me qualify for the bonus.

I’m working in a slow office and half the clients no show. The ai bots are scheduling them. It’s only my first year. The two senior preparers are always busy. They’ve been doing it for 30 or 40 years though.

Talking to Boston Consulting Group about a principal role. I was told the bonus structure is 0-85% with 17%-35% average. I’d have to take a significant step back in base pay. Do you think the avg bonus quoted is on the low end? It seems like it would be to compete for talent otherwise.

Colleague has put in his resignation. They are offering him whatever he wants to stay including 4days a week work from home. He’s not bluffing and plans to leave. However, at this same time I was asked to begin working as a supervisor for the engineering team and I would get a promotion at the beginning of the year. I have been supervising and managing our team of 6 for months with no extra pay or bonuses. I was told yesterday that raises will be light this year. Yet today they spare nothing.

Tax Senior here. I’m well liked around the office, I put in the hours and work hard, I haven’t had any dumpster fire projects, but I am a mediocre performer compared to my peers (not as strong project management, communication, not as confident). I just got told they’re firing me. Should I expect severance? Have other people been fired for similar? What did you do with your career?
