If you know the hotel where he is and you know what type of liquor he likes, you might be able to spice up the zoom meeting a little. Find a local bar that delivers or speak to the bar in his hotel. Arrange for a flight of different types of the liquor in question or 5 or 6 unique beers and then get the same thing for yourself at your house. You can both try each kind at the same time and compare notes on which one you like. It’s just a way to make a zoom a tad more interesting.
As a follow up, I had some of his favorite beer delivered, and we did a Zoom happy hour call. Was totally fine, glad he was cool with it.
Truth -“i’d really enjoy meeting you but I am being super cautious about the virus and don’t go to indoor venues. Can we have a drink via zoom?” My guess is he’ll say no because client wants to be in a bar. Pre covid, if client asked you to a fish restaurant and you are deathly allergic to fish, you wouldn’t feel uncomfortable saying no and suggesting an alternative. Treat this with the same mindset. Not a big deal, just something you can’t do.
I totally agree. Clients are as rare as unicorns. There is nothing you shouldn’t do for a client, except die. You need to draw the line at death.
Imagine the most outrageous thing a client could ask you to do. For me, that would be base jumping. I would have to politely decline.
I haven’t seen anyone but my spouse and 2 people outdoors since March. How to handle? I steer to a lame zoom happy hour?
Since March I’ve taken a total of 2 non-essential client meetings (I do some estate planning work so I have to deal with signings). People get it unless they are irrational. Be safe and firm.
Where are you located? Where I am, people are going out for cocktails and dinner. The restaurants are at 50% capacity. Wait staff is masked. Temps checked, hands sanitized and masks required for entry.
Yeah none of those things prevent Covid-19 transmission when you are eating and drinking indoors without a mask.
