Have any attorneys started their own recruiting agency or worked as a recruiter for an agency on the side, while working as an attorney. I am looking to build up my own legal recruiting agency during my off hours, but I want to make sure there is no conflict of interest or other potential risks in doing so.

Depends on your current employment agreement

Neither do I. But the firm still has policies that you agree to by working at the firm. In any case, unless you're okay with the possibility of the firm claiming your earnings from your side gig are theirs, I'd check with your firm that you're in the clear.

It’s a lot more time consuming than you think. Doing it while working full time as a lawyer will likely burn you up.

I don’t know if you need to get into one of the big powerhouse recruiting firms but definitely agree having experience before you start your own place is a must.

I’m just agreeing on the point that I think it’s going to be difficult to do recruiting part-time and make it work unless you can do most of your law firm job at night. If you need income, why not look for a recruiting firm that will give you a draw until you have money coming in?

I practice pi. I’m fully remote and have control over my hours. So my work day is very flexible. I’ve had some recruiting experience in the past, which is why I’m thinking of starting my own agency. I just want to make sure that working in two careers involving legal services won’t expose me to some sort of ethics violations.

I have a promising interview at a relatively large law firm in my area (+100 attorneys) next week. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?
